Fortnite & Video Games

June 9, 2018By Katie GuyAt Home, Family No Comments

Wow!!  I have been researching this stuff for years, but am still amazed at the info I learn.

I LOVE the idea of an electronic fast for our children.  Especially in light of the knowledge that our children’s brains are not fully developed until 25 and sometimes longer for men!!  There are some really great videos on Families Managing Media explaining our children’s brain development and how DETRIMENTAL video games and even just looking at screens (think scrolling on social media) is for our children’s brains, including our adult children.  They have extensive information on screen/video game addiction and how we should not be fooled that our children can not get addicted to screens!!
I came across Families Managing Media when looking into the video game Fortnite. If your children play Fortnite, I highly recommend watching this video.  There is a short part where she references sex so you may want to listen on headphones first and then watch it with your kids who play video games knowing where to mute it for 30 seconds.  My son was very interested in listening to it and learning all the information they shared about brain development and the intent of video game makers.
The video reveals that these video games are being designed with the help of neuroscientistsis that know how the brain works and what things to design into it to keep people (kids) playing them more and more, very much like a slot machine in a casino!!  This is seriously alarming, but TOTALLY unsurprising!!
In an article on Medium.com entitled “The Tech Industry’s War on Kids”, Richard Freed the author states:

What none of these parents understand is that their children’s and teens’ destructive obsession with technology is the predictable consequence of a virtually unrecognized merger between the tech industry and psychology. This alliance pairs the consumer tech industry’s immense wealth with the most sophisticated psychological research, making it possible to develop social media, video games, and phones with drug-like power to seduce young users.

These parents have no idea that lurking behind their kids’ screens and phones are a multitude of psychologists, neuroscientists, and social science experts who use their knowledge of psychological vulnerabilities to devise products that capture kids’ attention for the sake of industry profit. What these parents and most of the world have yet to grasp is that psychology — a discipline that we associate with healing — is now being used as a weapon against children…The parents I work with simply have no idea about the immense amount of financial and psychological firepower aimed at their children to keep them playing video games “forever”…Put plainly, the science of psychology is hurting kids more than helping them.

Freed quotes Tristan Harris saying “Never before in history have basically 50 mostly men, mostly 20-35, mostly white engineer designer types within 50 miles of where we are right now [Silicon Valley] had control of what a billion people think and do.”

These designers are “brain hacking”, not just our kids, but adults too.  Many UX designers are utilizing what is called Persuasive technology with the help of psychologists and neuroscientists.  Again quoting from Freed’s article  “The Tech Industry’s War on Kids”

In the Venice region of Los Angeles, now dubbed “Silicon Beach,” the startup Dopamine Labs boasts about its use of persuasive techniques to increase profits: “Connect your app to our Persuasive AI [Artificial Intelligence] and lift your engagement and revenue up to 30% by giving your users our perfect bursts of dopamine,” and “A burst of Dopamine doesn’t just feel good: it’s proven to re-wire user behavior and habits.”

Ramsay Brown, the founder of Dopamine Labs, says in a KQED Sciencearticle, “We have now developed a rigorous technology of the human mind, and that is both exciting and terrifying. We have the ability to twiddle some knobs in a machine learning dashboard we build, and around the world hundreds of thousands of people are going to quietly change their behavior in ways that, unbeknownst to them, feel second-nature but are really by design.” Programmers call this “brain hacking,” as it compels users to spend more time on sites even though they mistakenly believe it’s strictly due to their own conscious choices.

I HIGHLY recommend reading Freed’s article in it’s entirety!!  It’s a fascinating and infuriating read.  There is enough info to, hopefully, propel you to take action to protect your kids from this “Persuasive Design” that is used to keep people, children, in the bondage of addiction.  It is documented that these designers are using their knowledge of addiction and how the human brain works to ensure we stay on and keep coming back.

Video Game RULES!!!

Our family has always had fairly strict rules for video games and video game time.  They started out less strict and progressed over the years until our children always had to buy their video game time with their Virtue Reward cards and by then it was only allowed on weekends.  However, at some point, years ago, when our oldest was in his teens we just took it all away and said everyone is grounded and just never got it back out as they shortly found other interests outside of video games.  The older ones don’t really play video games and the younger three occasionally ask to play the Wii…it’s the original one.  Via my 13 year old: the games we have on it are Wii Sports, the OLD Mario, Bionicle Heroes, a few Zelda (including Twilight Princess but he says they are not allowed to play that one.  I don’t remember why.) and Star Wars Clone Wars.  I guess we used to have Lego Star Wars and Super Smash Bros, but they are broken.  We play it so rarely that it is just not an issue.  When they are allowed to play it and the five year old is around the only game he is allowed to see is Wii Sports, Mario and part of Star Wars.  The only game the 5 year old is allowed to play on the Wii is Wii Sports and we have let him play Clumsy Ninja on the iPad a handful of times.

This Fortnite thing though!!

My 13 year old was apparently hearing all about it from several friends.  In a, not so rare, hectic moment at our home he came to me and said “May I please get this game on the iPad”  Of course, I asked what game?, he told me Fortnite and named a few of his friends whose parents were letting them play it.  Unfortunately, I said yes and downloaded the game for him without any further investigation.
Thankfully, computer, video games, iPad, TV usage are still HIGHLY regulated at our home.  EVERY single device is locked down with a parental code.  My husband and myself are the only ones who can open the iPad, we have allowed our 21 year old daughter to have the code for the TV.  Each child (except the 5 year old) has their own account on our iMac, of which all are locked down with the Apple parental controls and Covenant Eyes monitoring.  They only have these accounts as we homeschool and they need access to certain things on the computer for this, not always internet related either.  For the younger children (13 & 11) their internet is completely locked down.  This means the ONLY websites they can goto are ones I specifically add to their “white list”.  NO ONE has the wifi code except myself and my husband (wifi will be going completely away in our home soon, you can read why in the world I would want to get rid of wifi here.).  The wifi shuts off at 10:30 and doesn’t come back on until 7 am.  We can also go into Covenant Eyes and set specific times each child is allowed access to the internet, just in case they figure out how to flip the switch on the light timer, like this one, we have hooked up to the wifi and router.
Back to Fortnite, so I downloaded it and my son played it once or twice.  Then he had two friends, who play Fortnite, spend the night.  He asked if they could play Fortnite on the iPad.  This is when I learned that Fortnite was a internet based game.  I learned this as they had a third friend on the phone who was going to be playing it with them and knew of an older boy from our parish who was going to play it with them as well.  This gave me pause and I reluctantly agreed, but only allowed them to play it for 30 minutes and promptly shut the iPad down at the end of the time.  This was the last time my son played the game.  Then the video mentioned above came across my path.  This video shed some light on what exactly Fortnite is.  While it is not a first person shooter it is a third person shooter, where the kids are “hunting” other humans.
Another VERY strict video game rule my husband and I have ALWAYS held is NO FIRST PERSON SHOOTER games!!!  We had this rule from DAY ONE, our oldest is 23 so A LONG TIME!!  We knew back then that first person shooter games only trained these poor children’s brains to form pathways to accept shooting someone much more easily.  It has now been revealed that this is IN FACT what the military uses to train soldiers for battle, so they will not freeze up when faced with shooting an actual person.  We also held to the rule of no THIRD PERSON shooting games, unless the shooting was not of a figure that looked like a person, for instance Star Wars, Clone Wars is tanks shooting tanks for the most part and at some point shooting aliens.  Knowing now that the human brain is not fully formed until the age of 25 makes this decision even more solidified for our family!!
Over the years we have had a pretty consistent pattern of reducing video game usage.  We started out way more lenient than we are now and as we observed our children’s behavior with video games the rules got more strict and the video game time allowed less and less. Here is the progression of the video game rules I used to print and hang up.  The files were so old I couldn’t open them, so they had to be converted to Simple Text.  Imagine these were much more fun looking for kids.  🙂
These were rules early on…
Summer Rules Early On…
See the progression to LESS time…
So…Used to is the key word.  We have gotten so strict that we rarely let them play. Then times occur that they end up playing way more than they should.  I’m busy, distracted, time flies by too quickly and I DON”T have rules hung up anymore.  Writing this post has inspired me to make up another Video Game rule chart (much more strict than the others) and hang it up.  That way there will be no discussion or me trying to remember what I had said last week about it.  My younger kids also seem to have a hard time with the timer thing.  They either forget to set it or ignore it when it rings.  I come in and they have that zombie look on their faces.  After reading Richard Freed’s article on “The Tech Industry’s War on Kids” it is apparent that they are probably zombie faced out on all the mind control that is put into these things on purpose!!  Sadly, research shows that many young men in the US are opting to stick to their video game habits instead of becoming productive members of society and join the workforce.

So what is a parent to do?

Well, a Hammer is an option!!

No Seriously…

If you don’t want to be as drastic as taking a hammer to all your electronics, here are some things I recommend:

  • First start by observing your own digital habits.  If you are spending too much time on your phone/computer/TV, you will need to seriously curb your own habits.  Kids are smart.  They will see you over using your digital devices and wonder why it’s OK for you and not them.  Parents ARE NOT immune from screen addiction!!!
  • If your kids don’t have an interest DON’T START them on screen/video games.
  • KNOW your kids temperament!! Certain temperaments will need more strict rules or just not play AT ALL!!!
  • Make sure they have a love for other things: outside play, sports, nature, biking, etc. BEFORE you EVER let them play video games.
  • Find friends that don’t play video games or have similar STRICT rules.  (This is a HARD one.  Even if your kids have friends that will play things other than video games with your children, I have found that the kids that play video games more than my kids can’t seem to talk about other things when they are over!!!  Most conversations will revolve around video games they play)  This has always ended up making my kids feel left out and “different”.
  • Don’t be afraid to JUST SAY NO to video games ALL TOGETHER!!!
  • Once they start playing video games if you see their love for other things fade, detox them from screens immediately!!!
  • Seriously LIMIT video game time.  I suggest Fridays after dinner and only after all duties are completed, Saturday and Sunday only after morning duties are complete and not near dinner time when this will interfere with dinner chores.
  • I also don’t recommend letting kids play video games before church on Sunday’s.  I think this just sets a stage for them to be thinking about the games during the church when they should be meditating on our Lord.
  • Don’t let them play for more than 20-30 minutes on the days they are allowed to play.
  • Purchase an egg timer and MAKE THEM USE IT!!!
  • DO NOT let them combine times.  If you have two kids that want to play together, they start at the same time and end when the 30 minute timer goes off.
  • Have some system where they MUST earn/purchase video game time.  I am a little partial as the inventor, but I HIGHLY recommend The Virtue Reward Program!!
  • If they throw a fit when they have to stop playing TAKE VIDEO GAMES AWAY for, at least 3 weeks (4 is best) to give the brain a chance to detox and reset.
  • If they nag you to play, set a rule…nag about video games…loose video games for 3 days or the upcoming weekend.
  • If you are like me…spread thin and a, not so great, short term memory from homeschooling, running a home with 6 children, etc. Put up a white board where you will write down who is grounded from video games, for how long and what reason. (In fact, write all your rules, consequences down.  I forget so much with managing lots of kids)
  • Type up ALL these rules on a piece of paper, print them and HANG them up!
As always with Swell Living we don’t want to just sound the alarm bells, drop the mic and leave you hanging.  We aim to help you have the wisdom and knowledge needed to implement some very practical steps to solving the problem we have brought to your attention!!

Are Young Living and Essential Oils Part of the Occult? Part 1

May 12, 2018By Katie GuyFamily 12 Comments

I have been asked numerous times to write this article for many reasons…I have been with Young Living for nearly 14 years, am a devout, traditional Catholic, with many fully practicing New Age family members.  I have been researching and studying the New Age, the Occult, Theosophy, Gnostics, etc. for 23 years and have spent much time refuting these beliefs.

As my Young Living team grows, the same online articles seem to surface over and over:  The first article is from The Last Hiker entitled “Young Living and Do Terra Essential Oils — New Age and Occult Multi-level Marteting in the Church” Posted on June 27, 2015. The other is from Woman of Grace entitled “Essentials Oils and the Occult” Posted on March 18, 2016 by SBrinkmann.  It has become clear that someone needed to write an article laying out the truth in these matters.

Let me start by saying that it saddens me very much that the blog post Women of Grace used, as it’s main source, was the article written by The Last Hiker.  This saddens me so, because The Last Hiker article has been written with heinous, false claims about Young Living, it’s products and it’s founder.  Not citing primary source documentation is, at best, negligent journalism; at worst, the authors could be culpable of gossip, calumny and slander, of which can be considered serious sins in the eyes of a Catholic.  As Catholic websites represent our Faith, great care needs to be taken, by their authors, not to cause scandal.  It would be a great act of charity for Women of Grace to do more research and publish an apology and retraction of their blog post that uses The Last Hiker post as it’s primary source.  As for The Last Hiker, this blog has absolutely no information regarding the person writing the articles, no name, fake name, nothing, not even if they are a man or woman, for this reason I will hereafter refer to the author as “he”.

Another very serious concern about the two articles that keep surfacing is that BOTH articles have direct hyperlinks to websites with spells, witchcraft, pagan rituals and Wiccan information.  These sites are not informational in the sense that they are warning readers of WHAT to be on the look out for, these sites are instructional websites on HOW to perform spells and practice witchcraft.  It is highly dangerous to direct readers to these sites.  Curiosity is part of human nature.  Unless one is fully formed in their Christian Faith and has the vice of curiosity under control, a click on these hyperlinks, from well meaning websites, has the ability to put their readers into serious spiritual danger!!  I clicked on the link only to have one of these pagan witchcraft sites open up.  I know what I am in for and am researching for journalistic purposes;  however, this click on their hyperlink has now cached this website into google as a site I have visited.  When I go back to the article on The Last Hiker, which has google ads active on their site, I now see this below…notice the google ad on the right hand side…

Having said that, I don’t feel comfortable hyperlinking to the two articles I reference.  Instead, I will share screen shots and use direct quotes from the articles herein.

Lets start with these statements that utilize hyperlinks to pagan, witch, spell websites.

The Women of Grace article takes partial information from an occult website to make their point that blends of Essential Oils are potions used for various pagan/occult reasons.  I’ll quote:

In witchcraft, potions are used for a variety of reasons.

For example, this recipe for a potion called “Earth”, combines myrrh, rose, patchouli and vetiver oils and is designed to bring prosperity and protection.

The “Water” potion, which combines bergamot, jasmine and myrrh, is created to bring psychic ability, sensuality and to increase emotions.

What she neglects to inform her readers is that these blends in and of themselves are not magical.  The witchcraft website (The Witch’s Library) specifically states:

What makes an oil blend magical?

An oil blend is just an oil blend unless it has been charged. Charging is the name for the process by which objects are consecrated to magical use and empowered with magical intent. This is usually done in circle, in a ritual manner, or through a spell.

An oil blend is just an oil blend UNLESS IT HAS BEEN “CHARGED”!!!

Just as in our beloved Catholic Faith, water, olive oil, salt and frankincense are JUST THAT until the priest bestows the blessing upon them, making them Holy Water, blessed oil, blessed salt and blessed frankincense, these essential oil blends are JUST THAT until someone bestows a Wiccan “blessing” or, rather, curse on them.

In the Extraordinary Form of the Catholic Mass, which I attend, there are many feast days where the liturgy has special blessings for herbs and essential oils.

i.e. If your priest chooses to include these blessings, on the Feast of Epiphany you can bring frankincense and myrrh to be blessed and on the Feast of the Assumption there is a special blessing for herbs.  This blessing originated in Germany as early as the tenth century.  It was reserved only to the Feast of the Assumption.   In this instance, the term herbs is not our strict English meaning.  It includes all types of cultivated and wild flowers.  Here is a quote taken directly from the Roman Ritual for this blessing, “the priest, standing before the altar and facing the people who hold the sheaves of new grain, garden vegetables, flowers and new herbs and the finest fruits of their orchards in their hands says in a clear voice…”

It is clear that Holy Mother Church recognizes that things of the earth, of God’s creation, have many wonderful properties for our temporal and everlasting (physical and spiritual) lives, listen to the closing prayers of this ancient blessing of our Church…

Let us pray.

Almighty everlasting God, who by your word alone brought into being the heavens, earth, sea, things seen and things unseen, and garnished the earth with plants and trees for the use of man and beast; who appointed each species to bring forth fruit in its kind, not only for the food of living creatures, but for the healing of sick bodies as well; with mind and word we urgently call on you in your great kindness to bless + these various herbs and fruits, thus increasing their natural powers with the newly given grace of your blessing. May they keep away disease and adversity from men and beasts who use them in your name; through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Let us pray.

God, who through Moses, your servant, directed the children of Israel to carry their sheaves of new grain to the priests for a blessing, to pluck the finest fruits of the orchard, and to make merry before you, the Lord their God; hear our supplications, and shower blessings + in abundance upon us and upon these bundles of new grain, new herbs, and this assortment of produce which we gratefully present to you on this festival, blessing + them in your name. Grant that men, cattle, flocks, and beasts of burden find in them a remedy against sickness, pestilence, sores, injuries, spells, against the fangs of serpents or poisonous creatures. May these blessed objects be a protection against diabolical mockery, cunning, and deception wherever they are kept, carried, or otherwise used. Lastly, through the merits of the blessed Virgin Mary, whose Assumption we are celebrating, may we all, laden with the sheaves of good works, deserve to be taken up to heaven; through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Let us pray.

God, who on this day raised up to highest heaven the rod of Jesse, the Mother of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, that by her prayers and patronage you might communicate to our mortal nature the fruit of her womb, your very Son; we humbly implore you to help us use these fruits of the soil for our temporal and everlasting welfare, aided by the power of your Son and the prayers of His glorious Mother; through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

We know the evil one mocks and wickedly inverts what his Creator, whom he hates, has done.  Of course, he would bring forth a practice that takes what is holy and turns it on its head.  Of course, he would have humans utilize wonderful things from God’s creation for evil, mocking the blessings of the Faith with curses instead.

Now lets briefly take a look at what The Last Hiker utilizes to make his point.  He hyperlinks to a website with the title “Witch Crafts: Guide to Oils and Herbs” to prove his point that oils can be used as potions.  He claims that this site proves how oils can be used as potions.

Again, the reader is lead to believe that the oils and herbs in and of themselves, when combined together in the specific recipes, are evil potions.  This is untrue, as we saw from the above quote from The Witches Library.  There must be accompanying spells, incantations, etc. said over the herbs/oils.

Let’s follow this path even farther.  This linked site from The Last Hiker goes on to say that

garlic, ginger, cinnamon and allspice help to influence lust, basil influences wealth, marjoram influences money, mustard: astral projection, pepper-banishing & exorcism, poppy seeds influence luck, rose, peppermint and lemongrass are for psychic abilities and orange is for divination.

The article talks about picking the right ingredients for your spells and potions.  Not to sound like a broken record, but, yes, essential oils can and are used for witchcraft, spells, etc. just like herbs, spices, flowers, roots, and many other plants and plant materials from Gods creation.  It is not the material that is evil, it is the spell, incantation said over it that makes it evil.  To quote from another site The Last Hiker links to, “Spiritual Spells”,

Handcrafted Oils and Herbal Oils are blends made up for specific ritual or magickal purposes. They are not made in a factory, but are indivisually prepared with the addition of magical herbs, roots, flowers and other natural ingredients to a simple oil base and then ritually charged with intent.

As you can see it is not the ingredients that make up the evilness, but the RITUALS done over them.

Young Living’s Blends Blatant Potions?

Let me now address what The Last Hiker claims and, in turn, Women of Grace perpetuates in their article…that Young Living’s blends are “blatant potions”.  They claim they are blatant potions because of their descriptions.  I’ll be honest with you, I have not read the descriptions for MANY of the blends in probably over 10 years, so I had to refresh my memory on these and double check in the Young Living product catalogue.  The descriptions written in these articles I’m refuting are, in fact, what Young Living has for their descriptions.

There are many angles to address here.

Is Young Living “blessing” the oils and oil blends before selling them or somehow “charging” the oils or oil blends with “psychic energy”?

I can say with certainty that the Young Living employees at the farm and in the warehouse are not trained to do this.  I have been to the Young Living farm in Mona, Utah many times.  I have been in the distillery on the farm many times.  I have spoken with many workers there.  While I have not personally been to the warehouse, I know, literally, dozens and dozens of friends that have.  I have asked around and the response is “NO.  No Way, they are WAY too busy to even be doing that.”  These are friends I trust.  Young Living’s farms and warehouses are open to the public.  Anyone can go see for themselves.  Casting spells over oils and “charging oils with psychic energy” is NOT part of the Young Living Seed to Seal process.

Does this mean that at no point anything like this is EVER happening to the oils before they reach my home.  I have absolutely NO idea.  In 2016 Young Living had over 2000 employees, then these oils pass through many hands once they leave the warehouse before they reach my door.  We live in an increasingly pagan world, many, many people are turning to witchcraft and Wiccan practices.  At any point along the way someone could have put a spell on or cursed my oils.  This goes for ANYTHING you purchase.  You have absolutely NO idea what is being done to or said over ANYTHING you buy.  It makes no difference if it is an essential oil, pharmaceuticals, food or clothing.

When was the last time you asked the pharmacist getting your prescription ready for you what their religion was?  GASP!!!  Throw your prescriptions away, get rid of them, GET THEM OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!!!!!  What if they said a prayer/spell/incantation over them?  Oh No!! What to do?  And ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER eat at a Chinese food restaurant or Heaven forbid…get Donuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  These food venues are overwhelmingly owned by people who practice eastern religions.  They’ve probably cursed your food!!!!

Well, actually, that is quite possible!!

Which is why it is ESSENTIAL for EVERY Christian to make the +sign of the cross+ over every single thing they bring in to their home or put in or on their body!!  We live in a pagan world.  It must be done!!  A wonderful priest taught this to our family many years ago.  He relayed a story of being at an event with a priest from Africa, whom he was sitting next to.  When the American priest made the sign of the cross over his water glass the African priest leaned over and asked “Oh you have that problem here too?”   Yes, sadly, we do!!

To emphasize this point even further, lets take a look at McAfee.  Anyone who owns or has owned a PC computer at any point should know this name well.  McAfee is an anti-virus software company started by John McAfee.  In recent years, the crazy escapades of this millionaire have been brought to light, including alleged murder.  There is a documentary about McAfee detailing his dangerous life.  I would NOT recommend that you watch this documentary.  My husband watched it and said I should not watch it as some of the things they uncover about his life are too disturbing.  The documentary interviews some of McAfee’s former employees.  It is unveiled there were employees at McAfee that were self proclaimed practicing Wiccans and they would perform Wiccan incantations/rituals at work, in the office.  The staff also participated in a game to earn points based on how many times and where they had sex in the office!  McAfee’s anti-virus software is on hundreds of millions of computers worldwide.  Is it possible that there are Wiccan spells/curses associated with this software?  Who knows?  Maybe a blog post should written urging readers to throw their PC’s in the trash.

It’s a Marketing Problem…Oil Descriptions born out of FDA Restrictions

One thing I have known from the beginning is that the essential oil and blends descriptions Young Living puts on their website and in their catalogue are a result of the FDA restrictions on what can and can not be said.  Since, I have been studying the new age and occult for many years, these descriptions never really bothered me.  I knew they were just descriptions…I ignored them and moved on.  I looked at the oils in the blend, looked up those individual oils and it’s constituents to determine for myself what the use of that oil could be.  The FDA/FTC regulations severely limit what can be said about an oil or blend.  The marketers at these companies have to get creative to even come up with a description.  It is up to us as consumers to do the research needed to know what an oil and it’s constituents are beneficial for.  Back in the day, before the FDA crack down, you could hear Gary Young speak openly about these things, but not anymore.  To protect the company he must stickily adhere to the FDA/FTC guidelines.  His decades of knowledge can no longer be shared publicly.

Do I agree with these descriptions?

Most of the time NO!!!

Does that stop me from using essential oils?  NO.

I am intelligent enough to know these descriptions are a marketing problem and I don’t concern myself with them.  Do I think these non descriptive, descriptions could be better and less New Age?  Absolutely!!  Should we speak up about this to Young Living?  Yes!  As members, our voices should be heard.  Write to Young Living’s product support and let them know you do not like the descriptions of some of these blends.  Let them know these descriptions are offensive to you as a Christian.

If, after all of that, you are still uncomfortable enjoying these wonderful smelling blends because the descriptions are offensive or too spiritually New Age or vague for you, don’t buy them.  I would say make your own, but some of the single oils are ONLY available in a blend as they are so rare.  (Another sign of a company that sells the purest, most therapeutic oils, they are OFTEN out of stock, due to lack of supply of oils with the proper constituent make up).  So you can try to make your own blends or just do without.  There are plenty of single oils out there to use in your oil cabinet.

Essential Oils and Emotions

The Last Hiker infers that any description that has to do with emotions is bogus and a spiritual danger.  This is simply not true.  It has been scientifically proven that smells have a profound ability to effect our emotions.  The limbic system has been referred to as the seat of the emotions.  From Wikipedia:

The limbic system supports a variety of functions including emotion, behavior, motivation, long-term memory, and olfaction.[4] Emotional life is largely housed in the limbic system, and it has a great deal to do with the formation of memories.

and again from medlineplus.gov

The limbic system of the brain is a group of structures which govern emotions and behavior. The limbic system, and in particular the hippocampus and amygdala, is involved in the formation of long-term memory, and is closely associated with the olfactory structures (having to do with the sense of smell).

Here is a really quick, 3 minute video explaining this…

In this TED Talk she talks about how Tide is utilizing scents to evoke memories in it’s customers.  She describes that Tide has a citrus, fruity and floral experience.  She goes on to explain that citrus smells educe feelings of cleanliness, sweet fruity smells induce feelings of comfort and floral scents evokes maternal love and care.

So is Tide now new age and occult?

The Word Pharmakeia and it’s meaning

The Last Hiker…

To really understand where I am going, you need to understand what this type of witchcraft is. I am sure you have all heard the word potion before. And maybe in a Bible Study you have heard the word for sorcery in Greek is Pharmakeia (Strongs Greek 5331). These words refer to medicines or drugs that are combined together to accomplish a physical or spiritual intention. It is a potion.

This is easily refuted.  In this instance, the word pharmakeia is only referring directly to sorcery or witchcraft as in the translation in the Douie-Rhymes bible where St. Paul admonishes the gentile Galatians, whom he had taught the Catholic Faith to, not to practice witchcraft.  It was the common practice of the time to utilize herbs, plants, flowers, etc. from God’s creation as medicines.  It is highly unlikely that St. Paul was admonishing the Galatian Catholics not to use these things from God’s creation for their well being in his letter to the Galatians.  What he was admonishing them against was the use of witchcraft.  Again, these witchcraft practices would utilize these herbs, plants, food, flowers, etc. in their potions and spells, but it is not the physical things from God’s creation that make it witchcraft.  It is the accompanying spells, curses, incantations, etc. that one would have to engage in to be practicing the pharmakia St. Paul was referring to.  These Galatians, that St. Paul was rebuking were being deceived by non gentile Galatians who were slandering St. Paul and his teachings.  In addition, there are similar Greek words that carry the other meanings and are the roots of the word pharmacy, pharmacists, etc.

Don’t Support a New Age Company

In a much earlier article, pictured above, Women of Grace urges its readers not to support a “New Age” essential oil company.  They claim they researched and found only one company with no New Age stuff on their website: Lebermuth.  Ironically, Lebermuth is primarily a fragrance/perfume/flavor company.  Perfume oils are lower grade oils and may contain synthetic chemicals that are endocrine disruptors.  They can also be extracted with chemical solvents.  All of these chemicals wreak havoc on men and women’s endocrine systems, which includes their fertility.  In researching on Lebermuths website it is clear that their main focus is fragrance, perfumes and flavors.  While, I have no doubt, they may be a top notch fragrance/flavor company, they are not focused on bringing it’s customers therapeutic quality essential oils with the full range of chemical constituents God designed to be in the plant.  They clearly state that they purposely “separate and purify natural isolates from our essential oils.”  I called the company to verify what I saw on the pictures on their website and was told that the oils are stored in aluminum drums.  This is NOT something you want to store an oil in that is going to be used in or on the body to support the body systems.  Telling people to use these products is certainly not treating the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit.

In addition, we all need to understand that we have no idea of the religious affiliations, New Age, pagan, Jewish, Muslim, Satanist, Christian, etc. of 99% of the businesses we get our products from.  To say not to buy Young Living oils because it may be supporting a New age company is short sighted and not treating the problem holistically.

Have you ever gone into a nail salon?  When was the last time you entered one and did not see an altar set up to Buddha or some Hindu god?  At least, down here in Texas this is what we see in the nail salons.  Are blog posts being written urging women NOT to goto nail salons because they are putting their spiritual lives in danger?

I would like to challenge Women of Grace and The Last Hiker to take 10 products from their home and research the founders of that company, the CEO, and anyone who makes money from that company.  Research who that corporation supports with its money.  If they really don’t want to put money into the pockets of anyone that may be New Age, good luck with that.  We live in an increasingly pagan world.  Many companies that consumers get a plethora of their products from promote New Age or Eastern spirituality.  While yes, their products may not have New Age descriptions (although some certainly do), the companies themselves promote/practice them and many corporations support other things that are seriously morally objectionable to a Catholic.

On the other hand, I know Young Living is not supporting organizations that would be morally objectionable to a Catholic.  They only support their own foundation, the Young Living Foundation.  The foundation helps support orphaned children, rebuilding in regions that have been wrought by natural disaster and the end of human trafficking, to name a few.  100% of the money donated to the YL Foundation goes to the cause you want to support.  That is because Young Living Corporate pays all of the operating costs for the foundation.

Young Living oils are the most pure on the planet.  They have proved this with their nearly three decades of experience and as such they own the largest library of constituents in the world.  These are not just perfume oils.  We use them for our families, for our children, to support our body systems to keep us above the wellness line.  Do your work, research, research, research.  A simple search on PubMEd would yield 100’s of results on medical studies into the efficacy of therapeutic essential oils.  Talk to some people that use Young Living oils.  Ask what they use them for, ask for their testimonies.  These are NOT snake oils.  My family has been using them for over 13 years, we have six children and I know our life would be a more bleak picture without them.  Our physical well being would not be what it is.  Do we follow the New Age mumbo jumbo?  NO!!  Do I care what the descriptions are?  Kind of, I know the oils work regardless of what a vague “spiritual” description says.  That is all they are allowed to say as “spiritual” claims are not regulated by the FDA or FTC.  So what are they left with?  Like I said before, it’s a marketing problem.  Do I think Young Living has solved that problem well?  NO.  If these descriptions bother you…MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD…we will not be the SILENT majority anymore.  Sure with 3 million members there is going to be a WIDE range of beliefs, but I truly believe there are more of us in Young Living that don’t agree with those descriptions than those that do agree with them.  Remember you CAN, SHOULD and have a DUTY to email Young Living and let them know these New Age descriptions are offensive to you as a Christian.  Email productsupport@youngliving.com

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!

Do your research, make your voice heard, bless anything you put in or on your body with the +sign of the cross+ and don’t live your life based on fears!

May God Bless you and may your Young Living oils benefit your family on your path to maintain your wellness and your body as a Temple of the Holy Spirit.

P.S.  I realize I have not addressed MANY important claims made in these two articles.  Part 2 is in the works.  If you would please say an Our Father and/or a Hail Mary for this I would be so grateful!

Is Your Laundry Detergent TOXIC?

February 25, 2018By Katie GuyAt Home, Family, Wellness 1 Comment

I’m sure most have heard of the viral “Tide Pod eating” challenge.  Even before this so-called challenge laundry pods have posed a serious health risk.  The EWG states:

Laundry pods came on the market in 2012. The American Association of Poison Control Centers says that between 2013 and 2017, there were more than 56,500 reported incidents of children 5 years old or younger ingesting, inhaling or touching the highly concentrated detergent found in single-dose laundry products. Vomiting, burns, corneal abrasions, breathing problems and at least 10 deaths have been linked to pods.

This pod eating craziness may have one bright side…which is that it has brought attention to the fact that these laundry detergents are TOXIC!!!  And don’t be fooled thinking it is just Tide.  Just about every laundry detergent on the market is toxic, even some of the “green”, “natural” ones still contain toxic chemicals.

One recent study, by Mike Adams on Science.news, using state-of-the-art mass spec instrumentation (LC-MS-TOF) in an ISO accredited laboratory, found that these Tide Pods contained over 700 unique chemicals, even though, Adams reports:

“Tide packaging claims the product is made of just three things: Detergent, stain remover and color protector. The Tide website admits, ‘Every Tide detergent contains many ingredients with long, complicated names,’ but it only lists 14 ingredients.”

Mike Adams explains “Tide laundry pods are widely described by doctors and health professionals as being toxic to human health, and eating them is said to cause severe health consequences or even “permanent damage” to human health.”  He goes on to make the point that if these are hazardous to our health if ingested then they are hazardous to your health JUST by wearing the clothes that were cleaned in them.  Mr. Adams points out that as we sweat in our clothing this releases these toxic chemicals directly into our pours.  He also expressed real concerns about what ALL of these toxic laundry detergents were doing to our ecosystems.  You can watch his full video explanation here.

I would go even further than Mr. Adams and say that, even if you are not sweating in clothes washed in toxic laundry detergent or dried with toxic dryer sheets, you are at risk JUST from breathing in the “scent” that comes off of it.  Sadly, many companies have turned to new nano technology to bind these toxic, synthetic scents to the clothing so that “fresh smell” lasts until the next wash.  What comes with this is the ability for these chemicals to now cross the blood brain barrier.  Just breathing in the scent is toxic on so many levels!!

Many laundry detergents use added optical brighteners to make the clothes appear brighter.  This has nothing to do with getting the clothes cleaner.  These clothes only appear whiter, because these additives reflect blue light, giving the ILLUSION that your clothes are less yellow.  These chemicals remain on the clothes and up against your skin all day long!!

What about babies & children?

Now consider the effects on children and babies. Their little bodies are taking in WAY more chemicals, percentage wise, than an adult. Not to mention, how many babies and teething toddlers drool on and chew on their clothing!!  And the sleeping baby…with their face pressed against those freshly cleaned sheets for hours, just breathing those toxic fumes in, makes me sick just thinking of it.  Many of these chemicals are known cancer causing chemicals and endocrine disruptors.

So what to do about this?

Here at Swell Living we are not just going to scream the sky is falling and leave you with no solution.  You have to wash your clothes and nobody really wants to stink!!! I like to give several alternatives to hopefully help a wide range of people make the NON-TOXIC switch.  Taking into consideration everyone has a different level of time and money to devote to this seemingly daunting task.  I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it will be to clean up this toxic part of your daily living.

  • First, you must STOP using toxic laundry products, detergent, dryer sheets, fabric softener, stain removers, etc.  ALL of them
  • I recommend loading them all in a box and dropping them off at your local chemical recycling place.
  • Laundry Detergent Options:
    • For the DIY’er you can make your own.   Here’s a GREAT recipe.  I would not use Ivory soap, but instead one of Young Living’s many bar soaps or another favorite of ours is Five Star Soap.
    • If you are not a DIY’er, in my opinion, the best laundry detergent on the market is Thieves Laundry Soap.
    • Store bought options are SLIM!!  After much research, I have not found one that is available at my local stores that I can recommend as being free from toxic chemicals.  Not even at the crunchy stores!!  To be on the safe side you may just want to use a capful of Thieves Household cleaner per load or try out the washing soda and Borax, which can be purchased at most grocery stores. (If you have a suggestion that is clean let me know in the comments!!)
  • Fabric Softener Options:
    • VINEGAR!!  Yes, you heard that correct.  Use plain old white vinegar in the liquid fabric softener well in your washer.  I promise, your clothes will not come out smelling like pickles!!
  • Dryer Sheet Alternatives:
    • Wool dryer balls, with a few drops of your favorite Young Living essential oil on them.
    • If you don’t have the dryer balls, use a kitchen rag and put your oils on it and throw in with your load.
  • Stain Remover:
    • The Thieves Bar soap is great to keep in the laundry room to rub on stains.
    • The washing soda and Borax are great for stain removal as well.
    • For a tough, greasy/oily stain I like to put Young Living’s Lemon essential oil on it to sit for a bit and then spray it with diluted Thieves Household Cleaner.  Works GREAT!!

Getting these toxic chemicals out of your home is a great step in living the Swell Way!!  Be kind to your neighbor and stop polluting the neighborhood air with your laundry!!!

The Duty of the Moment

July 22, 2017By Katie GuyFamily No Comments

Being a homeschooling mother of six, who also intentionally shares Young Living in my “spare” time as a business, this quote was very helpful to me.  Simply looking out at the world around you, it can be tempting to think that you need to be doing a million things.  A scroll through any social media site/app has the ability to throw you into a pit of despair and self doubt, lowering your self-esteem to think that you are not doing as much as every other person you follow, you are not accomplishing great things, your house isn’t as nice, you don’t do fun things, they have more friends, the list can go on and on.

Rest assured your duties to your husband and children are so important.  Giving of ourselves to those physically present around us is so much greater than any post on social media.  Your duties matter, they have worth and doing them attentively and loyally has an eternal reward!

“The duty of the moment is what you should be doing at any given time, in whatever place God has put you.  You may not have Christ in a hobo at your door, but you may have a little child.  If you have a child, your duty of the moment may be to change a dirty diaper.  So you do it.  But you don’t just change that diaper, you change it to the best of your ability, with great love for both God and that child…There are all kinds of good Catholic things you can do, but whatever they are, you have to realize that there is always the duty of the moment to be done.  And it must be done, because the duty of the moment is the duty of God. ”

Oral Care: Fluoride

July 14, 2017By Katie GuyAt Home, Family, Wellness No Comments

I firmly believe that no one on this earth was meant to drink, brush with or ingest this toxin and it is a TOXIN!

  • “sodium fluoride” or “hydrofluorosilicic Acid”
  • Does NOT prevent cavities
  • Tooth decay is HIGH in low income communities that have been fluoridated for years
  • Is NOT an essential nutrient
  • FDA states it is not a mineral nutrient but a prescription drug!!
  • American Dental Association DOES NOT recommend it under TWO
  • Unprocessed industrial BYPRODUCTS of the aluminum scrubbing & phosphate fertilizer industries
  • These industries would have to PAY to dispose of it as a TOXIC chemical
  • It is instead purchased by municipalities and added to our water
  • People who handle fluoride MUST wear FULL hazmat suits and respirators or DIE
  • It accumulates in the body
  • Is mass forced medication
  • Dose CAN NOT be controlled
  • Highest doses going to bottle fed babies
  • Used as a chemical weapon
  • May cause bone cancer
  • Classified as a neurotoxin and mutagen
  • Linked to erosion of IQ’s
  • Takes the place of iodine in the body
  • Hinders thyroid function
  • Effects fertility
  • Ingesting 1/10 of an OZ can kill a 100lb human
  • Declassified Manhattan Project (atomic bomb) documents report that fluoride causes central nervous system damage

What to do?

  • Throw out your toothpaste, mouthwash, bottled water, etc. if it contains fluoride!!
  • Get a whole house filter (one that actually takes out fluoride) or at least get a Berkey water purifier for your drinking AND cooking water!!
  • We have a whole house system http://www.pureeffectfilters.com/filter-units/pure-effect-ultra-whole-house.html and I STILL filter my drinking water through my Berkey.

Young Living products to use…

MINERAL ESSENCE: MAN I LOVE how our products are formulated.  Young Living formulated our mineral supplement with Lemon, Cinnamon Bark and Peppermint Essential oils.  These oils help support the bodies ability to actually ABSORB these essential minerals!!  SO YOU AREN’T JUST FLUSHING IT DOWN THE TOILET!!  If you have been exposed to fluoride it is essential that you first get the fluoride out of your cells.  These oils support the bodies natural detoxification process.

LEMON VITALITY OIL: start adding this to your water daily.  If you have to drink city water at home (until you get a filter), a restaurant or a friends home make sure to always have your LEMON with you!!

THYROMIN Thryromin was developed to nourish the thyroid.  It was formulated with specially selected glandular nutrients, herbs, amino acids, minerals and essential oils all balanced for the most beneficial and nutritional support of the thyroid.

Oral Care: Oil Pulling, Teething & Lip/Tongue Tie

July 13, 2017By Katie GuyFamily, Wellness No Comments

Let’s start today with oil pulling.  What exactly is this? Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique where you swish about a tablespoon of oil, organic sesame, sunflower or coconut are best, in your mouth for up to 20 minutes.  It is said that the oil will pull pathogens out of your mouth and sinuses promoting not only oral health, but sinus and the overall health of the whole body.

There have not been any significant large studies on the effectiveness of oil pulling, however, there are MANY people who can tell you that it works!!!    Many holistic dentist recommend it for overall oral health and to help support the mouth while trying to remineralize the teeth.

TEETHING & LIP/TONGUE TIE

When my sixth child, Owen, was born in 2013 he had class 5 lip and tongue tie that we had released the weekhe was born. Being an avid oil user I wanted to support his little mouth with oils, but being such a new breastfed baby I didn’t want to introduce ANY flavors into his little pallet.  While sitting in bed recovering from his very hard birth and now the stress of having the tongue and lip tie procedure I somehow miraculously had enough use of my brain for it to dawn on me that I could use COPAIBA!!!

Copaiba has almost NO flavor and would work WONDERFULLY to support his mouth after this procedure. I  began to use it right away.  I was doing his stretches about once a day.  This is not the most fun thing in the world to do and like I said before I was only a few days postpartum, so I didn’t retain the instructions from the doctors office to do these stretches SIX times a day!!!  I was doing them only ONCE a day, but I was applying Copaiba several times a day!!  I was doing this for a week or so until I found out I was supposed to be doing them SIX times.  I was in tears.  I thought I had completely ruined the procedure!! I remember the ladies at the office specifically telling me to make sure I did the stretches or it would grow back together and you could have to repeat the procedure, yeah that one pictured below.  UGH!  I was a wreck.

How to do Oil Pulling

  1. Get about a tablespoon of your organic oil
  2. Add a drop or two of your desired Young Living Essential Oil…citrus oils are great for whitening teeth.
    1. Lemon
    2. Orange
    3. Citrus Fresh
    4. Thieves is a great addition when you need extra immune support. Of course, you can add any vitality oil of your choice.  You know what your body needs.
  3. Put the oil and EO mixture in your mouth
  4. Swish for up to 20 minutes.  If you are trying oil pulling for the first time you can start with 5   minutes and work your way up to 15-20 minutes (DO NOT SWALLOW!).
  5. Spit in the TRASHCAN not the sink.  These oils may clog your pipes.
  6. Rinse with warm water
  7. Follow up with Thieves mouthwash
  8. End with flossing and brushing with Thieves toothpaste and floss

The follow up appointment was in a few days so I started to do them more times a day, but I was still in tears thinking I had really messed up.  I was so nervous when we went back to the doctor.  The last thing I wanted was to have to put my baby through another procedure.  To my surprise the doctor said he looked GREAT and everything looked PERFECT, nothing was growing back together.

Thanks to my crazy postpartum brain somehow (miraculously) remembering to support his body with  copaiba, everything turned out just fine, in spite of me neglecting to do those stretches as much as I should have!! I am not telling you this so that you can use copaiba instead of the stretches. If you have this procedure done on your baby, DO THE STRETCHES!!!  It is not worth the risk.

Just three months later I did a lunch and learn at this dentists.  At that time, he was one of only two dentist in the area doing lip and tongue tie revisions on infants.  I taught them all about Copaiba and shared my sob story with them about Owen.  By then he was three months old and had already gotten his first two teeth at TWO months old.  You BET I was using Copaiba on him when he started teething, which was pretty much from the time he was a few weeks old, just after his lip/tongue tie procedure.  I shared with all of them the additional use of Copaiba for teething babies.  We now have two dentist offices in the DFW area that do lip/tongue tie revisions and CARRY Copaiba for these precious patients. Dr. Stacy Cole in Fort Worth and Dr. Preetha Thomas in Southlake (she worked at Dr. Coles at the time I gave the lunch and learn!)

If you know of a dentist in your area that does this procedure you NEED to go tell them about Copaiba, get them signed up and using Copaiba in their office.

My little Owen had his one year molars at 10 months old (that is 12 teeth in 10 months) and every tooth, including his two year molars by the time he was 20 months old.  There was constant chewing, drooling, moaning, everything in his mouth, biting, grabbing to bite anything that comes in range.  Apparently, my collar bone was THE BEST thing to teeth on!!  There was a constant stream of Copaiba in his mouth.  The easiest way to apply Copaiba Vitality to your babies gums is by putting a drop on your own finger and rubbing it all around.  Of course, if you are in fear of LOOSING a finger you can apply a drop to a teething toy and give it to them as you know they will stick it in their mouth right away.

With that much teething going on though I needed another tool in my teething toolbox.  So I began to use diluted Thieves spray.  HE LOVED IT!!  Save one of your empty Thieves spray bottles and fill it half way with Thieves spray from a new bottle and filtered water.  You can even try this by adding diluted Thieves mouthwash to an empty Thieves spray bottle.  If they don’t like the taste and clamp up when they see the bottle you can use the same methods as you would with the Copaiba…on your finger or on a toy.

Once again, as with ANYTHING you use on yourself or your children.  Use common sense, trust your intuition and discontinue or dilute more if you think it is necessary.  Happy Teething!!

The Best Berkey Hack on the Planet

January 22, 2015By Katie GuyAt Home, Family, Wellness No Comments

OK people, if you have a Berkey water filter you’ll know what I am talking about (if you don’t know about Berkey’s read my post All About Berkey Water Filters here) when I say it is such a drag when you go to get some water and it dribbles out.  You tilt it just to get that last bit out.

However, being out of water isn’t the biggest part of the drag.  It’s the fact that you NOW have to REFILL the Berkey!!!

UGH!!!!!

Cut to an image of me or one of the kids walking back and forth from the sink to the Berkey with a pitcher full of water.  If you have the Big Berkey or Travel Berkey this isn’t such a daunting task, but think about that Crown Berkey.

A whopping SIX GALLONS!!!  Who even has a pitcher that is a gallon.  Most are maybe 64 ounces. So we are talking about going back and forth 12 times with that pitcher.  And who is agile enough to carry a 64 ounce pitcher all the way full without spilling it?  NOT ME!!  Nor my kids.  🙂  So we do it an extra time for all the water we spilled and couldn’t fill to the top.

Then there is the clean up.  Yep, mopping up all of that spilled water, which we use precious towels to do.  Towels that are then needed to dry hands or dishes on later.

“Mom there are no more towels in the drawer.”  Then we are off to do another load of laundry.  All because of this Berkey.

It does make DELICIOUS water though!!!  This is why we go through all of this….for the delicious water and the knowledge that we are not putting toxic chemicals and pathogens in ours and our children’s bodies.

So after owning a Berkey for many years now and trying out several hacks:

•the dreaded pitcher

•the dreaded larger pitcher

•filling when emptey

•trying to remember to fill a few pitchers throughout the day

•running a hose from the  hose faucet in the garage to the Berkey (without a sprayer handle) making sure someone was near by to turn it off before it overflowed or trying to kink the hose so no water would come out as you run back to the faucet to turn it off

•the hose thing with a sprayer, said sprayer that always leaked and sprayed all over the breakfast nook.

•making sure you kept a tall chair near by so children could do any of the above

•moving to new house with no hose hook up near by and back to the pitcher thing!!

I decided to get creative.

Basically I ran an ice maker hose from a nearby water heater that already had a T valve on it.  Then I hacked my way through some faucets with shut off valves.  After many trips to Lowe’s then finally Home Depot, as the plumbing department at Lowe’s is subpar, I finally got all the required parts (of which I made up as I went along).  I probably couldn’t tell you what all they are, so hopefully you can just see them in the video if you want to try to do this yourself.   If you get really stuck and need more details comment below and I will try to figure out what they all are!!

This is yet another example of Swell Living!!!

Baby’s First Food…Bone Broth

August 9, 2013By Katie GuyFamily, Wellness 1 Comment

Our little number six, Owen is six and a half months old now and I finally found some time to make him a batch of fresh bone broth. I have been making my own wonderfully, healthily delicious bone broth for several years now. In my research, I found out that cultures that still consume an indigenous diet often feed bone broth to their babies as their first food. This broth helps to seal the gut! It’s amazing that our ancient ancestors just seemed to know these things by instinct. God is so wonderful and faithful that he infused this knowledge into our ancestors to help sustain generations of people. Modern society thinks it is so smart and advanced, but really I have found that the industrialization of a culture tends to bring it further and further away from this infused knowledge. Industrialized nations spend generations trying to advance, then they spend generations trying to relearn all that was lost.

Anyhow, once I learned about bone broth as a first food, I just knew I HAD to do this if God blessed us with another little one. You see, my last two babies before Owen had allergies. I had hoped this baby would be different, but that has not been the case, I am currently gluten, dairy and peanut free, along with several other weird things for this adorable baby.

This is why starting him out on solids properly is so important. This could be the difference between lifelong allergies and outgrowing them before pre-school. How do I know he is ready for food? You may be asking yourself. Well, first of all he has started to grab at my cup and food when I am eating, he has seven teeth, he is huge, we made it past the six month mark and he has started to seem less satisfied with just breast milk. He seems to be hungry more frequently, wanting to nurse very often especially in the middle of the night, yaaaaaawn!!

Did I mention he is huge and has seven teeth? So we started bone broth a few weeks ago. The bone broth was going so well we started farm fresh egg yolk, you see above, about a week ago.  I think the most fun is watching all of the funny faces the baby makes when experiencing new tastes. We’ll see what’s next. I’m really liking the idea of baby led feeding. You can read about that over here.
